FRENCH DEFENSE: ELLIS GAMBIT
FRENCH DEFENSE,ELLIS GAMBIT by Maurice Lee Roy Ellis 1.e4,e6 2.d4,d5 3.Nc3(Nd2),dxe4 4.Nxe4,e5!? The ELLIS GAMBIT may not be sound, surely I've had little encouragement in its development,& ridicule in postal play.Yet I felt compelled to present something new to the chess community. In naming this gambit after myself-it's been the practice to name an opening after the person most responsible for developing, playing,& analyzing the opening over a period of time, all of which I have done. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * TABLE OF CONTENTS Gambit Accepted PART ONE: 5.dxe5,Qxd1ck 6.Kxd1,Nc6 (A)7.b3 (B)7.Nd2 (C)7.Bb5 (D)7.Nf3 (E)7.f4 (F)7.Bf4 (G)Misc. Ron was teaching in Compton and Bobby would come over and they would play 10-second chess just like in the old days. Fischer loved it when Ron would play offbeat openings and he would try to refute them over the board. He was particularly struck when Ronnie, as black, played a weird gambit against the Tarrasch French: 1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5 3.Nd2 e5!? Bobby asked where Ron had found that one and Gross explained that a correspondence player friend of his had showed it to him. Further, the originator of the gambit was Steinitz!
