Berry moved from New Castle, Pennsylvania to the Youngstown area with his wife Mary Long and their four children around 1861. Berry was an African American brick and stone mason who eventually worked on many of the major public and privately owned buildings in Youngstown, Ohio, like the Rayen School and the Mahoning County Courthouse.Other buildings credited to Berry include Governor David Tod's residence, St. Columba Catholic Church's second church building, Homer Hamilton & Company's foundry and machine shop, the prison finished in 1866, William J. Hitchcock's residence, the Opera House, the first Tod Hotel, the Baptist Temple's second building, and the First Presbyterian Church also located in Youngstown. Berry also worked in Oil City, Mercer County, and New Castle, Pennsylvania. He died in May 1917 and is buried in Oak Hill Cemetery in Youngstown,Ohio.

Bud Fowler
From 1871 to 1947, African American baseball players were locked in and forced to play only those teams made up of "negroes(The Negro League)." As the all white baseball teams grew in numbers, right beside them were the developing number of all black teams. To have the necessary status of being "professional," these players had to join the all white teams in one of the major leagues. Two of the earliest players were Bud Fowler (his birth name was John Jackson), born in Cooperstown, New York in 1858 and Moses Fleetwood Walker, born in 1857 in Mount Pleasant, Ohio. Bud Fowler, by 1872, was playing on the New Castle, Pennsylvania (the Keokuk) as the only African American player. Fowler, like many of the early players, could move about and play several other team positions. He played for fourteen different teams for a career spanning twenty-five years but never was able to cross over into the National League due to his race.

Her father Arthur was a laborer,her mother Lela was a teacher and housewife.After completing high school, she attended Geneva College in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, where she earned a B.A. in 1943. The following year, she graduated from Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh with an M.S. in library science. She attended the University of Pittsburgh for further graduate studies in 1947 and 1948. Relocating to Atlanta in 1949, Hewitt became a librarian and instructor at Atlanta University's School of Library and Information Science. Hewitt and her husband, John, had a son in 1952. Hewitt joined the Rockefeller Foundation in 1956. She remained there until her retirement in 1983. She has received the Distinguished Service Award of the Black Caucus of the American Library Association and has been inducted into the Hall of Fame of the Special Library Association.

Following high(New Castle High School 1945),he joined the Navy.Later he enrolled at the University of Pittsburgh, where he graduated in 1950 with a double major in English and Journalism. Mosley then went to work for the postal service;he retired in 1992. During the 1950's, he additionally did freelance journalism for The Courier and for several national magazines; he also began making sculpture. Since that time, his work has been shown in numerous exhibitions, including a solo exhibition at the Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh, PA. Mosley now lives and works in Pittsburgh, PA.
